South East Reserve Forces and Cadets Association

Tuesday 24th September

Abingdon School

I was asked by our Master Peter McVeigh if I would like to attend this event on his behalf given our links with the Reserve Armed Forces and the cadets. The Lightmongers had been invited to attend through our affiliation with 606 (Chilterns) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force most certainly is not.

A number of awards were presented at this evening’s event including three British Empire Medals, one Deputy Lieutenant Commission, 13 Lord-Lieutenant’s Meritorious Service Awards to Reservists and Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers with numerous other awards going to the cadets.

The Lord-Lieutenant’s Meritorious Service Award is awarded in recognition to those members of the Reserve and Cadet Forces whose efforts are not recognised by the twice-yearly Honours Lists. These awards thus rank second to The King’s Honours Lists.

Our 606 (Chiltern) Squadron RAAF recipient for this award was Flight Lieutenant Morwenna Naden, seen here on the left being presented with her certificate by Mrs Marjory Glasgow BEM, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Oxfordshire. Morwenna has served with 606 for five years and is currently in post as their Operations Officer in charge of squadron planning working alongside the Commanding Officer to ensure all training, manning and budgets go smoothly.

Prior to her reserve career, Morwenna served for 12 years as a regular in the RAF.

I was lucky enough to meet Morwenna prior to the evenings proceedings while grabbing a coffee. She was in her dress uniform standing at the same table so it was a case of asking “are you by any chance Morwenna”? to which she replied yes and so we were introduced.
