It is the sadness that we heard of the passing of Liveryman Peter Denny after a short battle with cancer. Peter became a Freeman of the Company in September 1999, quickly progressing on to be admitted as a Liveryman in May 2000 and was an active member of the Company. Our affiliated School for blind and visually impaired children, NCW, held their Celebration Day on Friday 26th June, at which year-end prizes were presented. This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, innovation and technology enabled the event to be held virtually, using the GoogleMeet App. It was impressive to see how well the event had been organised and was carried out, with over 145 devices connected. ... The Lightmongers annual Charity Golf Fund-raising Day had to be cancelled this year due to COVID-19. Undaunted by this setback the Lightmongers Charitable Trust, based on some creative thinking from Liveryman James Hill, organised a ‘socially distanced” Charity Golf Event, fully compliant with COVID regulations and guidance! During May Captain (now Colonel Sir) Tom Moore received the Freedom of the City of London, in recognition of his phenomenal COVID-19 fund-raising on behalf of NHS charities, with which we are all very familiar. The awards date back to 2001 when Masters certificates were first awarded to those who hold leading positions in their profession. We held our annual Carol service on the 4th of December in our Company Church, St Botolph’s without Aldgate. The service was conducted by the Rev Laura Jorgenson and was a traditional service of lessons and carols.
