Mary Hare School for the Deaf, one of our two affiliated Schools, held their Speech Day for the 2023/24 Academic Year on 29th November 2024.
The Master, Tony Ginman and Past Master Eddie Taylor were privileged to represent the Lightmongers at this wonderful event. We were given a tour of the School and were able to observe the specialist equipment and creative design integrated into the buildings to support the students in their learning and day to day life at the School. We then enjoyed an excellent lunch provided by the School chefs and students before the formal speech proceedings started.
The speech day ceremony was inspiring, with a wide range of awards presented to students, some of whom had moved on to University and some who were continuing with the studies at Mary Hare. The Master was invited to present the Lightmongers Science Innovation prize, which this year was awarded to Adi Parmar. The citation for this award highlighted that Adi has always been fascinated in designing and making things from scratch, including an air conditioning unit and a homemade soldering iron. Adi has now commenced post-16 courses at Mary Hare in computing and in plumbing and electrical installation. Congratulations to Adi on being awarded the 2023/24 Lightmongers Science Innovation prize.

There were also two other prizes generously sponsored by individual Lightmongers; the John Rowsell Sports Endeavour prize and the Hugh Ogus Post Graduate Success prize.
All Lightmongers should be very proud that an important portion of their charitable donations is ear-marked for Mary Hare School where the pupils who start life with great challenges are given every opportunity to overcome them and emerge as confident and resilient young adults ready to achieve in further education or in the workforce.
It was a privilege for Lightmongers to attend the speech day, as part of our ongoing long term support to the Mary Hare School and we wish all the students every success with their studies and future careers.
