Our Summer Banquet this year was held on 6th July and by kind permission of the Lord Mayor, we were able to hold it at the Mansion House in London.

As ever, it was a very enjoyable and sociable evening in the wonderful surroundings of the Egyptian Hall of the Mansion House.

Sheriff Timothy Hailes, on behalf of the Lord Mayor, gave an excellent speech, covering some of the developments in the City of London and thanked the Lightmongers for their donation to the Lord Mayors Appeal.

The guest speaker this year was Lord Holmes of Richmond, who is very relevant to our Company’s main charitable aim of supporting those with sensory impairment of sight and hearing, having been rendered blind as a teenager due to a genetic eye disorder. He is today Britain’s most successful Paralympic swimmer, having won a total of 9 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medals whilst representing Great Britain at 4 Paralympic Games.  He is now a very active member of the House of Lords, with particular focus on supporting and promoting issues around disabilities. He gave an inspiring speech about what we can all achieve through personal determination.

It was a very enjoyable evening for all those attending and a great opportunity for members to entertain family, social and business guests in a superb and prestigious setting.  If you want to make an early reservation in next year’s diary, the provisional date for the Banquet is 5th July.
