The Worshipful Company of Woolmen host a long-established charity event, celebrating a City of London Freemans’s ancient “right” to bring sheep to market over the Thames, toll free. Over a thousand Freemen and their guests supported the 2024 event, held 29th September, with all funds raised being in support of the Woolmen Charity and the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

This year’s Sheep Drive took place on Southwark Bridge and the Master Lightmonger, Peter McVeigh and Junior Warden, Graham Smith, took part.

The Master, Peter McVeigh, shepherding the sheep over Southwark Bridge!

The Drive is held in conjunction with a Livery Fair, held in Queen Street,  which offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the Sheep Drive and the wonderful causes it supports, and for the Livery and specialist wool companies to celebrate their trade. A range of fun activities are included e.g. shearing displays and the showing of some rare breed sheep.

Junior Warden, Liveryman Graham Smith, doing some shepherding?

The Master received a certificate, demonstrating his attendance at, and support to, this very worthwhile Charity fund-raising event.

Great to see the Master and Junior Warden representing and promoting the Lightmongers at this City of London Livery event, celebrating an ancient “right” of a Freeman of the City of London.
