September Court meeting welcomes new freeman and liverymen

At the same meeting three of our Freemen progressed to full membership, becoming Liverymen of the Company, which enables them to become more involved in the shaping of the future of the Company and in contributing to the City of London:

  • Simon Goodwin – Goodelectronics Ltd
  • Steve Martin – RGE Services
  • Stuart Smith – Stromtechs Ltd, M

The Court meeting was followed by a lively pre-dinner drinks reception in the Courtyard of Tallow Chandlers Hall, allowing plenty of time for people to meet and chat.

During the Dinner the Master was delighted to  present the Lightmongers LIA Award 2026 to Aleem Islam. The Master was also privileged to welcome City Electrical Factors (CEF) as a Corporate Patron of the Lightmongers and present a plaque to Gavin Tallentire. CEF join a small group of Corporate Patrons supporting our work across charity and education while helping to raise their profile in the City of London, enhance their Corporate and Social Responsibility credentials and grow their industry relationships.

The Master gave a warm and lively speech welcoming all the guests, with particular thanks to Rachel Perks and Paul Stephens, from our affiliated school New College Worcester (NCW), for joining us for the dinner and also for the support NCW gave to the Lightmongers Charity Golf Day on 8th September, which had been a great success with 19 teams taking part. He observed that he was coming to the end of his year of office and encouraged all members to attend the AGM and Installation Dinner on 6th November to give strong support to the incoming Master and Officers.

John Benjamin, Master of the Worshipful Company of Scholars responded on behalf of the guests, thanking the Company for their warm hospitality. He gave a witty speech with a few anecdotes from his experiences as one of the experts on the BBC Antiques Roadshow. He concluded by proposing the toast to the Lightmongers, “may it flourish root and branch forever”.
