Once again the Lightmongers had a great golf day at the Royal Automobile Club, Epsom on Thursday 27th April 2017.
The weather continued to be almost dry, the last golfers had just a few drops!! However, as we have had a rather dry winter and virtually no rain in April, the course certainly needs some rain. As there are two courses available, considerable work to improve the Old Course was not fully complete, so we played the slightly shorter Coronation Course this year, which was a first for many of the players. Although shorter, it certainly is a little more challenging and most players seemed to enjoy the fresh challenge.
As usual there were a couple of very good scores and this year Edmundson Electrical rose to the occasion with Steve Nichols and his team from Edmundson Essex taking the first prize with 118 stableford points with Steve Smith and his team from Edmundson Midland coming second with 116 points. Great scores, well done to both teams. The Master Mike Simpson presented the prizes.
Roger Woodcock from Marwood Electrical won the nearest-the-pin on the par 3 and Paul Burton won the nearest-the-pin in two on the par 4, well done to both.
The final result, which contributes to the Lightmongers Charitable Trust, will be known in a few weeks. However, a special thanks goes to our own Lightmonger, James Hill, who challenged every golfer to get inside his drive on a par 3, only a few beat him, and he raised £270 for the event. Indeed, James also helped run this year’s event and I am sure we will continue to see a lot more of him.
Please put next year’s date of Thursday 26th April 2018 in your diaries for another great day.
