On September 6th a party of 60 Lightmongers and their guests boarded the Edwardian, a Thames river cruiser for a trip to view the lighting of the first 4 Bridges of the Illuminated River project. Once completed this will be the longest public art commission in the world at 2.5 miles long, covering 15 bridges from the Albert Bridge down to Tower Bridge.
The Master Stephen Thomas welcomed everyone on board, with a vote of thanks to the organisers of the evening. Past Master Mike Simpson gave a brief talk about the project.
Everyone enjoyed a very convivial evening, with a buffet supper and plenty of time to network, as well as to see the new lighting of the Bridges (Cannon Street, London Bridge, Millenium Foot Bridge and Southwark Bridge).
One of the objects of the Lightmongers is to encourage and foster the art and science of lighting and so it is great to see ambitious projects such as this being implemented. More detail can be seen in an earlier news item on our website about the formal switch-on ceremony that took place on 17th July of this year.
